The members of the cluster have the place of business in the South and East Moravia territory. This territory includes the following three regions: Zlín, South Moravia and Vysočina regions. The territory borders in the south on Austria and in the east on Slovakia.
The industrial tradition in this part of the Czech Republic dates back to the 19th century when the engineering industry and the manufacturing industry in particular began developing. The history of aircraft industry in the territory dates back to 1930s when the aircraft production was founded in Otrokovice within the framework of Bata concern and when the aircraft production in Kunovice was established at the end of 1930s.
They became the hub of small airplane production in the Czech Republic in the second half of the 20th century. At the end of 1980s more than 10 000 persons were employed in the aircraft industry and in the aviation-related industry in the territory while at present it is about 2 000 persons.
